It’s been almost a year since you had solar panels installed on your Portland home. Since then, life has been a dream. Your home doesn’t really need anything more than some sun. And, with Maine’s net-metering arrangement, you’ve even gotten paid for your excess power. Going green has never been this easy or rewarding!
But, the stormy summer has left you with more yard cleanup than you’d like, making you wonder if you should be maintaining or cleaning your panels, too.
Do You Need to Maintain Your Solar Panels?
When it comes to keeping your panels clean, rain does an excellent job of washing away the pollen and debris. Your solar panels are built to weather the storms that come their way. If you’re worried that your panels are accumulating loose leaves, you can always gently wash them away with your garden hose.
When it comes to maintenance, it depends on the type of panels you have. It might sound too good to be true, but traditional panels only require minimal upkeep.
But, if you have panels with solar trackers to follow the sun, they might need a little more attention. These panels have gears and a motor so that they can continuously soak up the most direct sun. Like anything with hydraulic fluid and grease, it’s important to maintain these parts so that they stay happy and efficient.
Solar Panel Monitoring
If you’re concerned that your panels may be misaligned or aren’t generating the power they once did, we’re here to help. All solar panels installed by us at LaPlante are monitored in our Scarborough office. If your panels suddenly stop working or aren’t putting out the right amount of power, we’ll let you know right away so that we can take action. It’s like your solar panel’s system’s very own bat signal.
